Tutor Program Update
A brief update by teacher, Chrisandre Sinosich, who started a tutoring journey with 3 of our primary school learners earlier this year:
“How wonderful to experience learning with these little ones. To see how they have developed, from the beginning starting out very shy and unsure.
As time progresses they realise they have a safe space where they can be themselves, their true authentic selves come out, children with an aptitude of skills that will one day be a big part of their identity. As we nurture these skills, it’s amazing to see how they transform. The happy smiles when they learn new things and the upside down frowns when they make mistakes. Shiny eyes looking at you with wonder, how can we not love this wonderful creation of God?
This year they have grown a lot and learned the alphabet, how to read and write. Reading is essential in the classroom as children that are read to more often have improved language and listening skills, experience stronger emotional connections and gain life-long love for reading. Every lesson they get better and better. Spelling out words and writing them down, telling stories and having a puppet show! With the right words and encouragement, we would be surprised at what could really be surpassed by teaching them how to believe in themselves and the power of “I Can!”
Our program focuses on giving attention to visual memory, visual discrimination, hand- and eye-coordination, auditory memory, spatial orientation, perceptual development with a combination of traditional schooling and a hands on approach where they play and learn at the same time. I leave you with this, as my slogan in educating children: “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”
I am excited to see what is to come!
